ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL – A driver of an eastbound vehicle made an improper lane change on the I-4 express lanes, colliding with a work van.
The collision happened Thursday, WESH reported. The driver of the work van tried to avoid hitting the driver of the vehicle, but they collided. The impact caused the van to spin right in front of another automobile.
The driver of the third car tried to swerve but hit the back of the van. The third vehicle rolled over and landed on its roof. The van struck a concrete barrier.
It is unclear if the driver of the van was hurt, but the driver of the third vehicle – a black car – was hospitalized for serious injuries.
The driver of the eastbound vehicle, who was later identified as 38-year-old Antoine Burnett, drove a white Dodge pickup truck. Eyewitnesses said he was driving dangerously at high speed and “stopped abruptly in the inside lane with no obstruction ahead of him,” which prompted the collision. Burnett fled the scene.
Burnett was later found, arrested, and charged with ” (a) felony hit and run, felony reckless driving causing severe bodily injury, and two misdemeanor counts of leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage.”
A bond of $24,000 was set for Burnett, and he has since bonded out of jail.
There was no official word on the injured driver’s current condition.
