Drunk driver causes wrong-way crash in DeLand

DELAND, FL – A 27-year-old man who was driving under the influence caused a head-on collision in DeLand over the weekend, local news reports. 

The suspect was driving his pickup truck east in the westbound lanes of International Speedway Boulevard around 12:30 a.m.

Several cars were forced to swerve out of his way before he struck one head-on. Two people in that vehicle were injured and hospitalized. The suspect was uninjured.

Police found open beer cans in the pickup truck and arrested the driver. He is being charged with charged with three counts of DUI with damage to persons or property, failure to obey driver’s license restrictions, refusal to submit to DUI testing, and making a threat against a law enforcement officer.
