Polk County DUI crash leaves toddler dead

POLK COUNTY, FL – A toddler was killed and a 5-year-old boy was seriously injured in a DUI crash in Polk County on Wednesday morning, CBS Orlando reports. 

The crash occurred near the intersection of Deen Still Road and Old Grade Road in Polk City. A 30-year-old woman was driving a 2019 Chevrolet pickup when she left the road, crashed through a fence, and struck several trees.

A 22-month-old boy who was not in a carseat was thrown from the truck and died at the scene. A 5-year-old boy was hospitalized with a broken neck.

Police found the truck littered with beer cans and learned the driver had drunk several before the crash. She was arrested and is facing charges of DUI manslaughter, negligent child abuse, DUI with serious bodily injury, DUI with property damage and driving with an expired license.
