YEEHAW JUNCTION, FL – One person was killed and sixteen were hospitalized after a three-vehicle collision in Yeehaw Junction on Wednesday morning.
According to CBS Orlando, the accident occurred on State Road 60 near the Peavine Road intersection around 7 a.m.
A westbound Dodge Ram pickup truck entered the eastbound lane in an attempt to pass a vehicle in front of it, entering the path of a Mitsubishi box truck. The Mitsubishi swerved but was unable to avoid a head-on collision.
A bus transporting Polk County inmates to a work releash program was travelling behind the Mitsubishi and struck it in the rear.
A passenger in the pickup truck was killed in the crash, he has been identified as a 52-year-old man from Port Saint Lucie. The 54-year-old man driving the pickup and the 43-year-old man driving the box truck were hospitalized in critical condition.
The transport vehicle was carrying 23 prisoners. 14 of whom were injured and required hospitalization.
Police believe foggy conditions were a factor in the crash.
