Wrong-way crash leaves one dead in Volusia County

VOLUSIA COUNTY, FL – One person was killed and two were injured after a wrong-way crash is Volusia County, WESH reports. 

The fatal crash occurred on Sunday morning around 6:30 a.m. near the intersection of State Road 472 and East Minnesota Avenue.

A 26-year-old man from Orlando was driving a 2014 Kia Rio east in the westbound lanes when he struck a 2019 Hyundai Elantra head-on. He did not have his headlights on at the time of the crash.

The Kia flipped over and the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene.

Both occupants of the Hyundai were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Initial reporting has not indicated whether police believe drugs or alcohol were involved.
